I just opened up all my browsers, and voted for Aaron 4 times. I don't want him to lose. I don't believe in any curse.

The whole thing has me agitated. If you guys didn't know or missed it, Hillis and Vick were on SportsNation(who is running the bracket) before the first round of voting began. Is it purely coincidental that they're both in the final 4? And both leading in votes? Vick I can believe, but not Hillis.

Dodged the Madden curse for another year...

AR's reaction was pretty funny...and classy.

Hillis over Rodgers: 'Madden Curse' lives!

In these locked-out times, I'm quite sure I wasn't the only loser -- er, interested party -- refreshing the ESPN.com's "Madden 12" bracket page Monday afternoon to find out whether either of our NFC North players had advanced to the finals.

Alas, they did not.

And it wasn't close.

Neither Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers nor Minnesota Vikings tailback Adrian Peterson will be on the cover of 'Madden 12' this year.

I can see Vick, the electrifying quarterback of a 2010 division winner, defeating Peterson, the All-Pro tailback of a last-place team in 2010. (The final vote was 59-41 percent.) But Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis over Rodgers? I think we know what's happened here.

I'm sure I'll get some hate mail from Browns fans over this one, but I'm pretty convinced that the so-called "Madden curse" played a big role here. Rodgers tweeted last week that he didn't believe in the curse and that he wanted to win this tournament, but I can't tell you how many Packers fans I've heard from who were actively voting for Hillis in fear of the curse.

As we documented a few weeks ago, there have been a number of instances in which "Madden 12" cover honorees suffered some level of downturn the following season. I obviously didn't conduct a poll of ever Packers fan, and it is true that the Browns heavily promoted Hillis' candidacy. But how else can we explain the Super Bowl MVP losing -- by a 61-39 percent landslide -- to a running back with 1,574 yards rushing in his three-year career?

Based on your initial reaction, the answer is obvious:

@Bri_Fuller: that's cause some packer fans were voting for Hillis because of the curse..rather have a #SHIP than a Madden Cover though

@ericelstad: SB repeat for sure now with no curse coming @AaronRodgers12 way!

@schlizzag: I am perfectly happy with this. No Madden Curse in Green Bay this year! #gopackgo

I have to admit to being caught off guard by how seriously people have taken this tournament. Short of tracking IP addresses, I don't think we'll ever know how many of Hillis' votes were actually intended to "help" Rodgers avoid the Madden Curse. The Browns have a deep and passionate fan base as well, but it's not hard to put two and two together here.

So much for being the Epicenter of Gamenity. I guess we'll just have to settle for having the best two teams in the NFC last season, and the eventual Super Bowl champions, in our division.

Aaron Rodgers: 'I don't ever like losing'

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has made clear he wanted to win the ESPN.com tournament to decide the cover of "Madden 12." So here's how Rodgers reacted via Twitter to Monday's news that he is out of the running:

"I dont ever like losing but Peyton Hillis is a great player and he's worked hard to get to where he's at. Lots of respect for him. ... Gb fans who are scared of the curse are rejoicing somewhere today haha"

The second line is a reference to the so-called "Madden Curse" that no doubt played a role in some of the voting.

for anyone who wanted a Rodgers cover, or anybody else on the packers, there will be tons of custom ones floating around the internet once the cover is revealed.

Do I believe in curses? No. However I do believe athletes can let their egos get the better of them, especially after they see their face plastered all over the place. I feel bad about Rodgers not making the cover, but in my mind he really didn't deserve to win the honor this year. Although if this hot streak of his carries over into next season, Madden will not need to run a vote for the next cover.

Up until he returned from his concussion, his performances were, for the most part, pretty pedestrian. Historically Madden does favor breakout players over MVP/Superbowl candidates for their covers. How many times have Peyton Manning or Tom Brady made the cover of Madden?

Personally I think Rodgers should have gotten the cover of Madden 10 for his breakout performance in the 2008 season.

He had a more than solid season and had an incredible post season leading to a super bowl MVP. Hard to beat that.

Martha Careful (10-May) : 1. this is true of all our linemen. 2. His run block is fine. 3. If all OL played like he has, we would win SB.
beast (10-May) : Meyers pass blocking is really good, his run blocking is really not.
Zero2Cool (9-May) : Packers have claimed DE Spencer Waege off of waivers from the 49ers and waived DT Rodney Mathews.

dfosterf (2-May) : The number on Love is going to be brutal.
Zero2Cool (2-May) : May 3rd. Extension day for Jordan Love. (soonest)
Zero2Cool (1-May) : USFL MVP QB Alex McGough moved to WR. So that's why no WR drafted!
earthquake (1-May) : Packers draft starters at safety ever few years. Collins, Clinton-Dix, Savage
